The Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDC) launched its ‘Rozgar Mela’ initiative to further employment generation through walk-in interviews and provide meaningful opportunities for the empowerment of Delhi residents.

The first of such job fairs was organised by DDC on 17th and 18th February, 2023 at Arya Samaj Mandir, Old Rajinder Nagar in coordination with the office of MLA (Rajinder Nagar). Taking ahead Chief Minter Shri Arvind Kejriwal's vision to provide equitable and respectable job opportunities, DDC will organise such Rozgar Melas in other parts of Delhi as well in the coming months.

The ‘Rozgar Mela’ initiative is envisaged as a linking platform that brings employers and job seekers together in one offline place. The mela provided job seekers with the opportunity to meet potential employers, learn about job openings, apply for jobs, and attend walk-in interviews. On the other hand, employers had the opportunity to meet and evaluate potential candidates and fill job vacancies with qualified candidates.

The Delhi government has always endeavoured to realise the vision envisaged and laid down by the Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi through the ‘Rozgar Bazaar’ portal. Through an order dated January 9, 2023, the Deputy CM and Minister (Employment) had directed that Rozgar melas be organised across Delhi to bridge the employment demand and supply gap. In continuation of DDC’s efforts towards the development of the ‘Rozgar Bazaar’ online portal, it will also organise ‘Rozgar melas across Delhi at a micro level, and to start with it the first Rozgar Mela was organised in the Rajender Nagar constituency.

The 2-day mela was inaugurated by Shri Gopal Mohan, DDC member, Shri Durgesh Pathak, MLA (Rajinder Nagar), and Smt. Reena Gupta, member of DDC’s Delhi@2047 Steering Committee and Advisor to the Delhi Government.

More than 100 companies participated in the 2-day job fair and conducted walk-in interviews with job seekers. Exide Insurance Company, Times Management, Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited, Angel Broking, Quess Corp., TeamLease, Awign, Orwal Business Solutions, Acropolis, LIC, HDB Financial Services, Dart Network, and other top companies from the area participated in the mela.

Over 500 job offers were rolled out for the most sought-after job roles, like engineer, HR executive, technician, sales executive, digital marketing, business development executive, web developer, full stack developer, structural design engineer, hospitality, data entry operator, and other top job roles, to the attending job seekers.

Because of the high demand for jobs among Rajinder Nagar's youth, the job fair was held at a central location to attract many job seekers and employers. It also had services such as a counselling desk to assist job seekers. The mela witnessed a huge turnout of youth from neighbouring areas as well.

Rozgar Bazaar Portal

Launched in July 2020, Delhi Government's 'Rozgar Bazaar' is a user-friendly online portal that connects employers and job seekers and provides a variety of services, such as resume creation, interview preparation, and career counselling to help job seekers improve their job search skills and increase their chances of being hired.

Through ‘Rozgar Mela’ we are taking another step towards fulfilling the commitment of Hon'ble Chief Minister Sh. Arvind Kejriwal to accord the highest priority to employment generation. After the successful implementation of the online Rozgar Bazar, there was a high demand from employees and employers that physical job fairs be organized as well.

Organising such job fairs and recruitment drives at a micro level will ensure that we can accommodate the maximum number of local employers and that job seekers can find employment in close proximity to their homes. Seeing the huge turnout, the model we followed at Rajinder Nagar will be replicated in other constituencies in the coming months to bridge the supply and demand gap in jobs.

Delhi Government’s ‘Rozgar Mela’ initiative is about reducing unemployment rates and promoting economic growth by providing businesses access to a diverse pool of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers. This pilot project promises to be a game-changer in the world of employment, opening up new possibilities and opportunities that were once beyond reach.

‘Rozgar Mela’ aims to provide employers with an unprecedented chance to meet many potential candidates and evaluate their skills and qualifications. The networking opportunities at these fairs can be invaluable to job seekers and employers, forging valuable connections and building relationships that could lead to life-changing career opportunities.

With the Rozgar Budget, the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sh. Arvind Kejriwal has set a target of providing 20 lakh new jobs over the next five years. We are proud that our talented youth have proven in this Rozgar Mela that, given the right opportunity, they can bag the most desirable jobs.
